Museum of Flight offers talk on space elevator

The Museum of Flight will present on Saturday, Aug. 25, Space Elevator 101, an overview of a concept that would use a cable anchored to Earth to reach space.
The presentation is 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the William M. Allen Theater at the museum at Boeing Field, 9404 East Marginal Way S. It's free with admission to the museum or for members of the Museum of Flight.
Space Elevator 101 is an overview of the space elevator conceptual design as well as the motivation for such a futuristic project. It touches on the material and design of the tether, climbers, power beaming system, problems with chemical rocket propulsion, historical analogies and possible future impacts of the Space Elevator.
The speaker will be Dr. Peter Swan, who will answer questions.
