What a great Fourth of July at Fort Dent | Letter to the editor

People of all ages gathered Thursday, July 4, at Fort Dent for Tukwila’s annual Independence Day fireworks show. Our family arrived at 8 p.m. and found the park filled with families having a wonderful time.

The event configuration this year was different, and I am actually writing to congratulate Rick Still and his team for putting on a great event; the new setup was substantially better than the years past.

The plethora of large inflatable bounce houses was a huge hit. My kids as well as most the kids in the City of Tukwila really enjoyed them. For about 30 minutes, fireworks boomed, crackled and sizzled, lighting up the sky for thousands to see. With each explosion, the crowd “oohed” and “aahed” in amazement. The music was outstanding as usual and the overall buzz of the event was intoxicating. I did not see a large police presence, and honestly it was not needed.

Again, I want to thank the Tukwila Parks and Recreation team as well as our mayor for a job well done. This was definitely worth the $26,000 in taxpayers’ money.

Joe Anderson, Tukwila
