Mike West receives Treasures of Tukwila award
September 30, 2011 · 11:01 AM
Mike West received the Treasures of Tukwila 2011 award for his service to the city.
Mayor Jim Haggerton presented the award to West at the Sept. 19 City Council meeting.
West, a 39-year resident of the community, was a founding member along with his wife Donna of the Tukwila International Boulevard Action Committee. The committee works to make the neighborhood along Tukwila International Boulevard safer and cleaner.
He has been an active supporter of the Citizens on Patrol, helping report criminal activity to the police. He is a former president of the Southwest King County Chamber of Commerce, has been a long standing commissioner on the Valley View Sewer District and has been an active contributor in helping improve the quality of life in Tukwila.
As longtime citizens of Tukwila and with over three decades as volunteers throughout the community, West and his wife have exemplified the spirit of volunteerism through their selflessness and service.
West’s children, many friends and neighbors from the community were present to join the mayor, council members and staff in congratulating him on his award.
Each year the city honors a citizen of Tukwila in good standing with the city and community; who has made a substantial contribution to improve the civic life in a manner that is above and beyond the everyday efforts of many citizens; and the contribution affects a meaningful segment of the community in a way that is positive, lasting and worthy of recognition.
A selection committee reviews all nominations and makes a recommendation to the mayor, who makes the final choice.
