Tukwila gets garbage service from Republic Services; not affected by strike

July 26, 2012 · Updated 1:02 PM

Tukwila receives its garbage-collection service from Republic Services, so the city is not affected by the current strike against Waste Management.

In June members of Teamsters Local 117, which is striking against Waste Management, ratified a five-year agreement with Republic Services.

“Our agreement was the outcome of a collaborative and respectful process,” said Mike Huycke, Republic’s Northwest Area President. “Both Local 117 and Republic worked toward a mutually beneficial agreement, keeping the employee and the customer in mind. It was our goal to get to a solid contract expeditiously and respectfully.”
