The King County Library System is offering the community a chance to listen and talk with local immigrants and their personal experiences in The Big Read program.
Dinaw Mengestu, an Ethiopian-American author and university writing faculty at Georgetown University and Brooklyn College, will make two appearances in October.
He’s discuss his book, “The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears,” 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the Tukwila Comunity Center banquet hall, 12424 42nd Ave. S.
This event will include a discussion, reception and book signing. A language interpreter will be available.
Mengestu will lead and mentor local youth from immigrant communities in a writing workshop to help them capture and share their own immigrant experiences, 1 p.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Seola Gardens Joseph House in White Center, 11215 Fifth Ave. S.W., Seattle. Mengestu was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1978 and immigrated to the United States in 1980.
