The occupants of a two-story townhouse were rousted from their home at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday by a fire that started in the kitchen, according to the Tukwila Fire Department.
Initial reports indicated that the residents were still inside and the fire had possibly spread to another unit.
Smoke was coming from the front of the house and attic when the first fire crews arrived at the house in the 3700 block of South 141st Street.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire to ensure it didn’t spread and made sure no one else was inside, according to the Fire Department. The fire and smoke damage was mostly contained to the kitchen area.
One person was checked at the scene. Cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Crews were working with the residents to arrange for alternative housing if they need it and the American Red Cross was available to assist.
The original dispatch included fire units from Tukwila, Kent, Burien, South King County Medic One and Zone 3 Rehab Unit.
