The Tukwila School District now has an agreement with King County Library System to purchase the Foster Library site at 4060 S. 144th St. for $1.19 million.
Because the current library program will remain in there until its new facility is ready, the closing date is set for January 2017. The new library nearby on Tukwila International Boulevard is part of Tukwila Village.
The district will house its Technology and Maintenance/Operations Departments in the re-purposed library building. The district’s 2016 construction bond included funds to purchase land and build a new facility for these departments.
By using the current library site, the district expects to save $800,000 to $1 million over the anticipated project price, according to Sara Niegowski, district spokeswoman.
