The Tukwila community is rallying around a Burmese refugee family that has suddenly lost its mother of six.
She was cooking dinner when she died on Tuesday.
The Tukwila School District is helping reach out the community. Six children in the Zam Khap family attend Tukwila schools. They’ve been in Tukwila for nine months.
“This family is just completely devastated,” said Sara Niegowski, a school district spokeswoman.
The woman was six-months pregnant; her 2 1/2 pound baby is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Swedish Hospital.
The family must figure out how to they can afford to reclaim her body and pay for funeral costs, she said. Right now, the least-expensive alternative is $7,000.
