Tukwila residents are invited to what organizers hope will be the world’s largest potluck, from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.
Action Tukwila – a grassroots community organization – is hosting Come Sit at Our Table to bring residents together. It will take place in the northbound lanes of Tukwila International Boulevard between South 144th and South 146th street and the nearby former motel sites.
Organizers hope the event draws more than 1,250 people to break the world record, said Pam Carter, a member of Action Tukwila.
Carter expects the potluck to reflect the city’s diversity.
“We want to have all different kinds of food, all different kinds of people and make new friends,” she said.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.
“If they are not able to bring that, bring an appetite and a willingness to try new food,” Carter said.
Action Tukwila has about a dozen members and plans to spearhead citizen-lead projects. The potluck is the group’s first event.
“We all love Tukwila and want to work together and make it a better place,” Carter said.
