The following is a press release from the Sounders U23.
The #RELOADED Sounders U23 team travel to Lane United on May 20 to open the 2018 PDL season. The Eugene, Oregon based Lane United bring three years of PDL experience and have shown to be a tough test for the Sounders U23 team when traveling to Eugene.
Both teams have split the series over the past three years with each team taking the home games with one tie over the series.
Lane United has leaned again on local ties and are led by Oregon State products Hassani Dotson, Mattias Binder, captain Jon Stadler and newcomer Gloire Amanda.
Casey Chubbfertal returns from College of the Redlands and Head Coach John Galas will look to employ his possession based offense once again in 2018.
“Lane United plays a good brand of soccer influenced by John’s time in Spain. As with any of the teams in the PDL Northwest Division, the game will be hard. Lane United took away points in Canada this past week so they will be looking to build on this,” said Darren Sawatzky, Sounders U23 head coach.
The Sounders U23 team will look much different this year as many of the 2017 roster have moved on with Paul Christensen highlighting the group and seeing minutes for Atlanta United of MLS this past week.
A re-vamped group and little pre-season time will show 2018 to again be a trial by fire for the young men in green. The player first philosophy will be evident as the Sounders U23 work to help these young players move up to the professional ranks.
A live stream of the game will be available on the Sounders U23 twitter feed and we encourage our fans to join and watch as the 2018 PDL kicks off.
The Sounders U23 open the home schedule on May 25 against TSS Rovers in a double header evening with the Sounders Women at Starfire Sports in Tukwila. Tickets and the full schedule are available at soundersus23.com.
