Two Foster wrestlers make state, but injury ends season for one

UPDATE FEB. 24: Luis Cuellar lost his two matches in the Mat Classic state wrestling tournament, facing what assistant coach Troy Farris called "tough competition."

Cale Woyvodich (TOP) and Luis Cuellar (BELOW) dominated their opponents in competition this season.

Foster wrestlers Cale Woyvodich and Luis Cuellar qualified for the state tournament, but an injury in the regional tournament last weekend ended Woyvodich’s season.

Cuellar, a sophomore, placed fourth at the Region 2 tournament in Hockinson, with two wins and two losses at 113 pounds.

He’ll compete in the Mat Classic in Tacoma this weekend. His first opponent is Bryce Bock, a Centralia High School sophomore, who was the Region 3 champion.

Woyvodich, wrestling at 120 pounds, won his first match with a pin in 54 seconds. He was injured in his second match, which he won 4-2 in overtime. He was unable to wrestle for the championship title, which went to Grant Gaspar from Ridgefield High School by default.

Woyvodich, a junior, has placed fourth in the last two state tournaments.

David Patton wrestled at 160 pounds in the regional tournament, losing both his matches.
